Cock-Blocking and LA Riots

LA Riots was good and yeah there were a lot of b-boys and girls but when your dancing the stereotypes just fade into the crowd and the crowd just melts into the music. Sense of time was lost as tracks faded and mixed smoothly throughout the night. Even though their set had started off slow, by the end of the night the audience was intense and craving more from the Cali djs.

All warm memories aside, for the night's finale I was put into the shit bastard position of male cock-blocker. When your the lone tomcat with a majority of girl friends who live la vie da loca, you need to accept that 69% of your male club-mates would love to poke your pals without even the decency to add them on facebook the next morning. While one may be a jive dude, he probably hasn't had sex since new years eve at Big White which makes his motives as unpredictable as a game of Clue. It was the case last night where a wild hipster joked and danced his way to first base with a friend and then later tried to steal home. It may have been that this hipster reminded me of a past self or that he flirted with the friend's sister earlier and later my girlfriend, but I just didn't want him to score. After some awkward moments between the group and the hipster, I ended up escorting him away from the friend's house. At half a block away the hipster stopped, turned to me, and said "thanks for the cock-block" then continued to walk alone into the night, a mane-less lion deprived of the nookie he desired.

One of the great tracks I remember from last night was a remix of Crystal Castles' Crimewave. I think pretty much everyone has a soft spot for the Crystal duo and when this song came on its like you kinda wish you had bought ecstasy from that guy ahead of you in the door line. LA Riots did this cool Ting-Tings remix as well:

Zach Condon's Weight In Gold

So as far as music goes, it should go without saying that anything Zach Condon works on will be worth listening to. I could write a series of memoirs voicing how every time I hear 'Postcards from Italy' I crave a nic-fix or where I was when I first heard 'Elephant Gun'. This new single, La Llorona (below in music video format), is from the new Beirut album 'March of the Zapotec' which if you can listen to in it's entirety and not feel like shaving your beard into a mustache triangle-patch then you should probably consult your doctor as there is a good chance you're souless. Fact.

Born Again Victorian

Here's a new and real catchy Yeah Yeah Yeahs song that has been in my head all day:

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Heads Will Roll mp3

The moving process has been a moving process. This past year I left Montreal for Kelowna and recently Kelowna for Victoria. Apart from the general bushit associated with moving, what do I think about Victoria? First off I love the sea like it was a beautiful elderly women in my neighborhood who smoked a pipe and baked orgasmic rhubarb pie. But sea aside, Vics got some great people and a music scene with a steady rhythmic pulse.

Since I've arrived, I've taken in at least 10 amazing nights of dislocate your shoulder dance parties. On Wednesday Villains took the set at Element and the majority of Victoria's night hipsters came together to jam on his sweet beats. Even though I upset some while dancing and drunkenly headbutted 3 individuals, energies stayed positive and I was able to meet some cool cats.

The following night I went to a 4 band concert at a small venue near my place where I saw The Virgin Space Cadets, Les Monstres Terribles, Iceclimbers, and Techromancer. All funkin fabulous and I had actually danced with members from both Iceclimbers and Techromancer at the Villains show. Techromancer blew my mind and I wish I could find some of their music but I can't.

Tonight is LA Riots at RJ and there's been alot of sweaty build up for this one. With reading break recently ending I have no doubt the floor will be jammed wall to wall with chongos and lady gagas but they're all good people once you get some sourpuss in em and point them to the stage.
