LA Riots was good and yeah there were a lot of b-boys and girls but when your dancing the stereotypes just fade into the crowd and the crowd just melts into the music. Sense of time was lost as tracks faded and mixed smoothly throughout the night. Even though their set had started off slow, by the end of the night the audience was intense and craving more from the Cali djs.
All warm memories aside, for the night's finale I was put into the shit bastard position of male cock-blocker. When your the lone tomcat with a majority of girl friends who live la vie da loca, you need to accept that 69% of your male club-mates would love to poke your pals without even the decency to add them on facebook the next morning. While one may be a jive dude, he probably hasn't had sex since new years eve at Big White which makes his motives as unpredictable as a game of Clue. It was the case last night where a wild hipster joked and danced his way to first base with a friend and then later tried to steal home. It may have been that this hipster reminded me of a past self or that he flirted with the friend's sister earlier and later my girlfriend, but I just didn't want him to score. After some awkward moments between the group and the hipster, I ended up escorting him away from the friend's house. At half a block away the hipster stopped, turned to me, and said "thanks for the cock-block" then continued to walk alone into the night, a mane-less lion deprived of the nookie he desired.
One of the great tracks I remember from last night was a remix of Crystal Castles' Crimewave. I think pretty much everyone has a soft spot for the Crystal duo and when this song came on its like you kinda wish you had bought ecstasy from that guy ahead of you in the door line. LA Riots did this cool Ting-Tings remix as well:
